Can someone for once and for all tell me if ultram (tramadol) is narcotic or not !?

heres the deal answering friends..., I suffer from chronic pain and am 27 w/ a 2 yr old and 5 mth old over counter meds advil bayer back and body tylenol etc have failed ti give relief i need ti\o live a decent life im sure there are many people in my situation I need to drive be alert and responsible for my kids.The ultram gives me only some pain relif but when you have chronic pain beggers cant be choosers So nacotics that can impair judgement cant be taken when i have some one around to help w/ my kids my husband is great at getting up at night so that i can take somthing stronger so i can sleep.MY main concern is if ultram truly is a narcto\ic is it leagle to drive on it ifd your in an accident and its found in your system can you get charged with a DUI?(I do not get any type of "high"or sedation on ultram) I talked with my doc who said itts an atypical narcotic meaning it releaves pain in the same way do you thiunk its ok for me to drive even though it dosent impair me beceause
