I'm taking higher art and was wondering...?

Well, I've just started the course but I've discussed with my teacher and she has suggested I use musical instruments as a theme. I was hoping to add maybe a table, vase with some flowers and some portraits on the wall like posters. I work best in black and white pencil but I know I will have to use colour. I haven't done art for 4 years but I was good with pastels and coloured pencil though i need some practise. What should my final outcome be in... Pencil or pastels?
