What is a good summer vacation idea for me?

i live in upstate new york and i was wondering where is a good place that isnt extremely far away to spend a week or so at? i still have to convince my parents of this so please make sure its not super expensive. i wouldnt mind going to a beach or a major city or an amusement park. pretty much anythingg :]
